Synopsis

 

"New Orleans, We Won't Forget About You" is a clever, intelligent, political and social indictment of how the Bush administration and many others, handled the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. Narrated in the serious yet comedic style of filmmaker Richard aka 2nd, the film also takes shots at some members of the media and their coverage of Katrina. The film also features ASPCA first responders, Fire fighter Billy Blanks and Onye Coleman a Katrina evacuee, who both give a shocking account of what really happened in August of 2005.

 

"New Orleans, We Won't Forget About You" brings the viewer an honest account and complete understanding of the true social and human impact that Katrina had on so many who were affected after the tragedy.

In a statement made by filmmaker Richard aka 2nd about the film, he states, "I have never produced a documentary before, but I was drawn to produce this documentary after being inspired by so many people from all walks of life whether they were connected to Katrina or not, who came together to express their Humanity and Compassion in the aftermath of the tragedy. This is what lit a fire in me to share their stories of Humanity and Compassion with the world."

 

This film takes you inside New Orleans 6 months after the tragedy, it focuses on the profound loss, as well as the resilient, and loving spirit of New Orleaneans.

 

The documentary consists largely of news footage, video footage shot 6 months after Katrina hit, still photos of Katrina and its aftermath interspersed with interviews from very credible sources, and all those affected or who knew of others affected by Katrina. The film also features interviews of New Yorkers from all walks of life who give their personal feelings on the governments handling of the tragedy before and after, and how the tragedy personally affected them.

 

The film's original score was wriiten, produced and arranged by the filmmaker himself, Richard aka 2nd, who is also a vey talented singer, songwriter and producer. Richard released his 1st debut album in 2008 entitled: "FREAKY MON", and after being touched by the Katrina tragedy, he felt deeply inspired to compose all the various songs that painted the beautiful backdrop for this magnificent film.

 

Shooting for the film began some 6 months after Hurricane Katrina hit. Richard received footage from his volunteer dp's Bruce Thompson, Won Huh and Libby Thompson who were all on the ground in New Orleans after Katrina struck. They conducted interviews and taped footage for the film. It was Richard's hope to obtain various opinions and responses to the Katrina Tragedy from both New Orleaneans and New Yorkers from all walks of life. So he put out an open call and interviewed nearly 6 people of diverse backgrounds and opinions for his film.

 

"New Orleans, We Won't Forget About You" is a 2006 Documentary film directed by New filmmaker Richard aka 2nd, about the devastation of New Orleans Louisiana due to the failure of the levees during Hurricane Katrina. It premiered and screened twice at the Anthology Film Archives in September of 2006 and 2007 to a packed house.

 

The title was selected to inspire hope in the lives of a people forgotten across the gulf coast after the huge aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. And its mission is to help people from all walks of life reconnect with their Humanity & Compassion in the face of tragedy.
